Databases
- Oracle
- PostgreSQL
- Patroni
- MySQL/MariaDB
- Galera
- Exasol
- MS SQL Server
- APEX
Databases are the core of our work. We have administered Oracle since version 7 and hold Oracle Certified Professional certifications for every major version from 8 to 12c, plus Certified Expert for performance tuning, RAC and Oracle on Linux. Today we run Oracle 19c with Data Guard, PostgreSQL with Patroni on Kubernetes, MariaDB Galera and Exasol side by side.
Typical tasks
- Oracle from single instance to RAC and Data Guard: setup, cloning, upgrade, operations
- Upgrades across several major versions, most recently 12.2 and 18c to 19c
- Backup and recovery with RMAN, standby databases, Enterprise Manager
- Introduce Oracle APEX and ORDS; migrate Forms applications to APEX
- PostgreSQL as a Patroni cluster on Kubernetes, MySQL 8 and MariaDB Galera
- Build and run Exasol and MS SQL Server
- Oracle SQL and PL/SQL tuning
From practice
On behalf of DXC Technology, which runs apoBank’s systems, we upgraded the Oracle databases of two data warehouse systems from 12.2 and 18c to 19c between 11/2019 and 06/2021, introduced Exasol 6.2, installed APEX and ORDS and automated the installation of various software products with Ansible. Context: bank risk management and regulatory reporting.
An older example: in October 2002 we improved the response time of a ticketing application on Oracle and Solaris at WestLB in Düsseldorf by a factor of 10.
